Buildings in Watercolour
Ever had the longing to paint your favourite building or indeed your own home? Here's your chance. Throughout the week the tutor will show you step by step how to produce beautiful watercolour paintings from a photograph. During this new course you will focus on drawing skills, learn about perspective and discover how to add depth by creating shadows. Your work will be enhanced by employing many other techniques. You will explore how to produce dramatic skies, paint interesting and realistic foliage and faithfully represent the character of a building. With friendly help and clear guidance by an experienced and passionate tutor, you will be encouraged to develop your individual style and reach your creative potential as you capture in watercolours your chosen buildings. Individual attention will be given as and when required in order to maximise your learning experience. This course will be of special interest to those with an interest in architectural illustration and who enjoy painting whatever their level of accomplishment.
This course is intended for those who wish to learn how to draw and paint buildings with an emphasis on producing a finished watercolour painting of your favourite building.
In addition to drawing and painting from photographs supplied by the students, the tutor has a large stock of images to work from. The course includes outdoor sketching and painting (weather permitting) in the grounds of the college where there are many examples of beautiful and varied architecture.
Topics covered during the week include tools for the job, successful paper stretching, composition, drawing techniques, perspective, skies made easy, trees, colour mixing – who needs dozens of paints, the importance of shadows, how to paint those tricky windows and many tips and tricks that the tutor will happily pass on that will make your paintings stand out from the crowd!
Colin will demonstrate techniques throughout the week and will work closely with individuals to help them develop their skills.
Essential materials will be provided, but you might wish to consider bringing the following: your favourite brushes,
drawing pencils HB, 2B,

Please contact me through the Summer School office if you need any advice in advance.
