Silk Painting

Silk Painting is a rewarding medium to work with. It allows people of all ages and abilities to take part, and produces creative results in a very short time. This full day course will give you a more thorough understanding of silk painting. Steam-fix dyes and spirit-based gutta (resist line) will be used. The course begins with a demonstration and explanation of the technique. The first main objective is to get familiar with the application of the gutta resist gum - this forms a barrier to the liquid dyes. We cover all aspects of painting on the silk and how the silk reacts to the dyes. Simple dilution of the dyes is one of the methods used to obtain different effects. Salt and alcohol are used to give the colour rhythm and liveliness. Each student will be given a small piece of silk to experiment with before developing a design. Wall hangings, cushions, scarves and sarongs can be achieved on this course – plus much more!!
