Life Drawing
Working with a range of media, students will be taken through a variety of approaches to producing drawings based on the human form. Professional models will be provided and clear step by step teaching will guide students through this most rewarding and enjoyable of drawing disciplines. This class is suitable for all levels of ability, although a little experience of general drawing is recommended.
Timmy (Patricia) is an ex Foundation Lecturer in Fine Art and Surface Design. Now, she is almost exclusively devoting time to working in her studio. This ranges from: drawing, using found materials to construct figure structures, ( to paint from too ) making mixed media works that are concerned with texture, tone and shape, in carefully constructed compositions, working on small landscapes en plein air. A successful exhibition of this body of work was shown at The Mount House Gallery, Marlborough College in April 2009.
‘It is not bright colours, but good drawing that makes the figure beautiful' Titian
Instruction will be given in all aspects of working directly from the Life Model. We will explore different approaches to interpreting the figure from ‘gestural' drawing to observed detail. The body has always played an important role throughout Art History, and during the course we will look at some of the ways different artists have attempted to portray the human body. Although some experience of drawing would be beneficial, the course is suitable for all levels of ability. Pencil, charcoal, and pastels are the main media used.
An introduction is given at the beginning of each session, with examples.
Warm up exercises before break during the early part of the week will encourage freeing up, and gaining confidence.
The role of light and shadow to create form will be carefully observed.
One session may involve the model partially clothed.
Working on a final sustained work, aiming to bring together the fruition of the course.
Materials provided.
