Decoupage

For both the beginner and those with experience, this charming 18th–19th Century pastime involves sticking paper cut-outs to a surface in a design, and varnishing them to give the impression of inlay.  During the week we will each undertake 2 or 3 different projects, choosing from a selection of tablemats, trays, boxes and planters, all available for purchase at cost.  All other materials needed, including a wide choice of paper designs, glue, varnish etc. will be provided. Also suitable for young people 13-16 years old.

The lovely thing about Découpage is, you don't have to be artistic, just good with a pair of scissors.

The week shall start with a display of examples of finished work, then, for those of you who are new to Découpage, our first project will be an octagonal table mat, on which I will show you basic techniques of how to mitre corners and how to stick the central motif in exactly the centre. After varnishing, this can be ‘crackle varnished' later in the week, to give it an ‘antique' look.

For the rest of the week, you can choose any projects you like, from an array of boxes, planters, trays etc (at cost) which I will have brought with me, or do bring anything you would like to Découpage, from home, sanded but not painted.

There will be a huge selection of papers to choose from, but if you find any pictures in magazines you especially like, or any wrapping paper, do bring them with you.

Everything is provided, from paint, glue and varnish, scissors, brushes, etc so you can have a carefree week just being creative! Most people achieve at least 3 or 4 projects.

I look forward to meeting you at summer school.
