Kiln Formed Glass - Intermediates
This course is for students who have some previous experience in kiln-formed glass or having worked with stained glass. There will be a talk on glass compatibility and we'll discuss about the different firing programs for the kiln, and we shall also observe how the glass behaves during the firing cycle.
You shall be fusing and then slumping glass into a mould to make a plate, kiln-carving using fibre paper and blanket to make a panel. Try the "pate de verre” technique. You shall also drape fused glass over a mould to make a vase. Make a decorative panel or frame using the ‘Bullseye' range of coloured glass, confetti, and stringers and coloured frits to produce your project or make a wall hanger. We shall also try the NEW microwave kiln technique for jewellery.
This course is aimed at those with previous experience in kiln-formed glass or having worked with stained glass.
We shall cover a number of techniques, starting with fusing different things layered between 2 x pieces of glass. Bring along anything you would like to try e.g. leaves, metal and found objects.
If you could collect images of designs you like, in magazines, books, sketch books, photo's of your favourite painter, etc, so that you can translate the image to your panel or plate.
Looking on the internet” goggle image kiln-formed glass” they can bring up some interesting pictures.
The glass we shall be using is Bullseye glass 90 co, which is supplied on the course but if there is something special you wish to buy, look at www.warmglass.
During the course you shall be able to make jewellery using the new microwave kiln with some Dichroic glass.
