Creations in Clay

Clay is a wonderful, mouldable material whose versatility allows it to be formed into a million different shapes using many processes, including the fun and fascination of the wheel.  This course will introduce beginners to some of these basic techniques and give them the opportunity to make clay pieces such as vessels and sculptural forms, which may be either functional or purely artistic.  Included in the course will be an introductory slide show, handouts on each skill and a basic design session.  This course is aimed at those with little or no previous experience.

This course is aimed at those with little or no previous experience, or perhaps those who have completed one of the sculpture or furniture workshops and would like to try another material.

It would be seen as an introduction to clay work for all the students to ‘taste’ the various techniques within this area, perhaps with a view to concentrating upon a specific skill in the future?

Full support will be given in the design and making stages, as well as written guidelines for the student to take away.

Books and visual resources will be available as a starting point for ideas.

At the end of the course, the students will be able to take home what they make.

There will be a choice of using real or air-drying clay, depending upon local access to a kiln.

I look forward to meeting you at Summer School
