Monotype/Monoprint
During the course we will look at the methods and mediums of monoprinting and monotype printing. You will have the opportunity to develop prints taken from your own sketches and explore processes used by artists since the 17th century including Rembrandt, Degas, Matisse, Picasso and more recently Emin. The Monotype / Monoprint is an intriguing hybrid among printmaking techniques. It is neither a print nor a painting but a unique combination of both. It can be achieved by using oil paint, water based paint or printers ink, through a press or by hand burnishing. The characteristic of both processes is that no two prints are the same.
The week long course will provide an introduction to a printmaking process that can be accommodated at home without great investment or the need for space.
This is why many artists who may baulk at the confines of other processes love the freedom and painterly nature of monoprinting and monotype printing.
