Welcome
At last year's event we welcomed record numbers of guests, with over 3,500 visitors from 32 countries making the Summer School a truly international holiday experience for all. As we look ahead to summer 2010 we are pleased to offer another comprehensive, high quality combination of courses and entertainments available to residents and non-residents in the impressive setting of Marlborough College and its surrounding countryside. The Summer School is designed to cater for young and old with many visitors returning year after year renewing old acquaintances and making new friends along the way. This year we welcome several new course tutors who are offering a range of titles to run alongside our perennial favourites. As always our aim is to maintain the breadth and diversity of the course range available to customers, providing maximum choice across the mornings and afternoons in each of the three weeks. Our comprehensive programme of daytime courses and activities on offer for young people continues to prove a winning formula and is once again packed with fun and variety to suit all ages. Dividing the children into four age bands the structure and content is carefully designed to provide an exciting adventure for each individual in a safe environment. The introduction of five2seven, our new evening programme of activities for young people 10-16yrs old was well received by both resident children staying with their parents or guardians and non-residents alike. Building on last year's success the new programme promises to be even more exciting in 2010. Each evening our residential children are invited to visit ‘The BASE' providing a supervised social club including a games room, TV, DVD, internet and docking station. Under the watchful eye of Paul Turner, renowned pianist and music teacher at the College, we are pleased to present another tempting series of Gala Concerts on Tuesday and Friday evenings of each week. These events are ticket only so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment. Our programme of lectures and recitals has also become a popular feature of the Summer School entertainment scene and can be enjoyed throughout the week. Tickets are not required for these events but non-residents should produce their ID cards (available from their tutor) for free entry. There will be a small charge on the door for visitors who are not attending Summer School courses. Visitors may also enjoy a wide range of less formal entertainment located in the Marquee culminating with our weekly Friday exhibition in Court. This occasion provides a perfect opportunity to view work from many of the courses, whilst enjoying music and entertainment in the wonderful setting of Court in the heart of the College. On behalf of Marlborough College and my staff at the Summer School, I am delighted to present our Summer School programme for 2010 and can promise the warmest welcome and a holiday experience to remember.
A warm welcome to the 36th Marlborough College Summer School.
